Merry Christmas to all who celebrated and a very Happy Boxing Day to all my friends in the Commonwealth!
As we wrap up 2025 and look ahead to 2026, let’s take a few moments to reflect together. Grab your journal and a cup of tea (or just read this while you’re moving through your day) and let’s dive into Day 1.
When life feels overwhelming—or when I’m deep in planning—pausing to notice what I’m grateful for almost always helps. Focusing on what feels good makes the hard stuff feel more manageable (and yes, science agrees…see below!).
Whether this year stretched you or lifted you, gratitude can shift your perspective and the energy you bring into each day. When we put on our “gratitude binoculars,” we start noticing the good, big and small.
We find what we look for.
So, what are you grateful for today? When you think back on the past year, what are you most grateful for?
If you want an extra challenge, spend the next 12 days tracking your top three daily points of gratitude. Write them down before bed so you have a clear record. For added accountability, share them with a friend—or reply and share with me. I’d love to hear them!
I’m grateful you’re joining me on this journey into 2026. See you tomorrow!
Best,
V
P.S. If, like me, you like to know the science, here are some options to help you learn more about the power of gratitude.
For the readers - this Positive Psychology article "The Neuroscience of Gratitude & Its Effects on the Brain” by Dr. Melissa Madeson offers a nice round up of pertinent studies.
For the listeners - One of my favorite podcasts “The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos” shares some great information with the re-run episode “Why Being Grateful Makes Us Feel Great” interviewing Northeastern University’s Professor David DeSteno.
For the watchers - Shannon Shallcross’s TedTalk “What Happens When You Harness the Power of Gratitude” provides an engaging journey into the wellbeing benefits of practicing gratitude.
